The Secret of a Successful Closet
Closets are often where we hide things..forbidden loves, skeletons, those horrible gifts we couldn't return.
Time to clean out! To purge! Hard to decide what stays and what goes, but here are the rules:
1. Make the "A" List
The "A" List pile should hold your favorite pieces. Things that flatter, things that make you smile and things that you know you look good in
The Repair pile should contain anything you love but that needs attention. When you finish your piles, take these pieces immediately to the cleaners or tailors.
3. The Giveaways
Fill this pile with items that were expensive and are still in good shape and that you would feel guilty throwing out. Anything that does not fit can go here, too. Include things that you pull out of the closet and, for whatever reason, you return to the closet whenever you're choosing an outfit. And anything you haven't worn in the last two years should go here, too!
4. The Throw-Aways!
Start with anything and everything from the 80's! It's time to get rid of items kept for purely sentimental reasons - a ratty sweater, all the shirts with messages written on them, and anything else you know you shouldn't wear. Of course, if items are in good condition or could be used by someone else, please donate them to a good cause.
Staying Out of this Mess
Now, look back at your "A" List pile. Take hints from it - colors, shapes. What is it about these pieces that makes you feel good? Makes you smile? These are the items your closet should be full of.
